Kai Trump has faced criticism online after posting a video of herself shopping at the upscale supermarket Erewhon in Los Angeles while accompanied by Secret Service agents.
The 18-year-old influencer and granddaughter of US President Donald Trump shared the vlog on YouTube, giving viewers a look at her visit to the high-end grocery chain during a trip to California. The video showed her sampling several items and discussing the cost of products while filming inside the store.
During the visit, Kai tried the store’s $22 Hailey Bieber-inspired strawberry smoothie and purchased a $128 Erewhon sweatshirt. While placing items in her trolley, she joked about the cost of the shopping trip.
“I’m like about to go bankrupt with this stuff,” she said while laughing at the camera. Moments later she added, “I’m gonna have to file for bankruptcy.”
The total spent during the outing was reported to be more than $233. The vlog was titled “I Brought My Secret Service to Erewhon,” which also drew attention from viewers.
Some commenters criticised the video, describing it as insensitive given the expensive setting and the financial joke. One user wrote, “Title might be the most tone deaf thing I've ever read. Like legit lmao,” while another commented, “thanks for showing us the grocery store none of us will ever shop at.”
Others shared similar reactions on social media platforms, with one post stating, “I have to believe she’s rage baiting,” and another describing the clip as “disgusting” and “scene-causing.”
However, some viewers defended the teenager, saying the video was simply documenting her experience at a well-known Los Angeles store..
