A judge on Long Island has temporarily blocked the release of police body camera footage connected to Justin Timberlake’s 2024 drunken driving arrest in the Hamptons. The decision comes after the singer filed a lawsuit seeking to prevent the video from becoming public.

Acting Suffolk County Judge Joseph Farneti issued a temporary restraining order that stops Sag Harbor officials from releasing the footage for now. Court filings show the judge has given the village until April 9 to explain why the video should be made public.

Timberlake’s legal team argues that releasing the footage would violate his privacy and could cause significant damage to his reputation. According to the lawsuit, the video would show the singer in what lawyers described as an “acutely vulnerable state” during his interaction with police officers.

The footage stems from Timberlake’s arrest on June 18, 2024, in Sag Harbor, a well known resort community in the Hamptons. Authorities stopped the singer after he left the American Hotel and suspected he had been drinking. His arrest quickly drew widespread attention at the time, with his booking photo circulating widely online and becoming a viral moment across social media platforms.

The case was resolved later in 2024 through a plea agreement. Timberlake pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of driving while impaired rather than the more serious charge of driving while intoxicated. As part of the agreement, he was required to complete community service and publicly acknowledge the mistake.

After leaving court following the sentencing in September 2024, Timberlake addressed the situation directly. He said he hoped others would learn from the incident and avoid getting behind the wheel after drinking.

“This is a mistake that I made, but I’m hoping that whoever is watching and listening right now can learn from this mistake,” Timberlake said at the time.

The legal battle over the body camera footage has now revived discussion about the arrest more than a year later. If the court eventually allows the footage to be released, it could provide the public with a clearer view of the encounter between the singer and police officers on the night of the arrest.

For now, the temporary restraining order means the footage will remain sealed while the court considers arguments from both sides.
