'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' Casts, Lucy Boynton Babou Ceesay & Peter Mullan for Season 2

Lucy Boynton, Babou Ceesay and Peter Mullan join HBO's 'Game of Thrones' prequel for season 2

Production on the second season of HBO's A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is underway in Belfast, Ireland, and three new cast members have now been confirmed for the Game of Thrones prequel spinoff.

According to Variety, Lucy Boynton (Bohemian Rhapsody) has joined the series as Lady Rohanne, while Babou Ceesay (Alien: Earth) will portray Ser Bennis. Veteran Scottish actor Peter Mullan (Children of Men, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power) has been cast as Ser Eustace Osgrey. Mullan is no stranger to fantasy television, having previously appeared in both Rings of Power and The Witcher.

The second season draws inspiration from George R.R. Martin's second Tales of Dunk and Egg novella, The Sworn Sword, continuing the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey) and his young squire, who is secretly Prince Aegon V Targaryen (Dexter Sol Ansell), the future king.

The casting announcement follows recent clarification from Claffey regarding Henry Cavill's potential involvement. Following a viral New York Comic-Con interview where Ansell seemingly suggested Cavill might appear, Claffey confirmed the former The Witcher star will not be joining the series. Internet rumors had previously speculated Cavill could play Daemon Blackfyre, an adversary from a bastard branch of the Targaryen family.

Showrunner Ira Parker co-created the spinoff with Martin, with both serving as executive producers alongside Sarah Bradshaw, Owen Harris, Ryan Condal, and Vince Gerardis.

The first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which consisted of six digestible episodes, recently concluded its run on HBO Max. All episodes are currently available for streaming. Season 2 continues the network's expansion of Martin's literary universe, following the success of House of the Dragon and the original Game of Thrones series.
