Jamie Lee Curtis is weighing in on the rapid rise of artificial intelligence tools designed to simulate conversations with deceased loved ones, calling the development “all new and dangerous territory.”
Speaking to Variety, the Oscar-winning actress expressed concern about the ethical and emotional implications of so-called “grief tech,” which uses archived audio, video and written material to recreate a person’s voice or personality through AI.

“This is all new and dangerous territory,” Curtis said, pointing to the blurred lines between memory and manufactured interaction. While some companies market the technology as a way to preserve legacies or provide comfort, Curtis suggested the psychological impact of digitally reconstructing someone who has died could be far more complicated.
The conversation around AI recreations has intensified in recent years, with advances in voice cloning, deepfake video and chatbot modeling making it increasingly easy to simulate realistic interactions.
Supporters argue the tools offer a form of closure or connection. Critics, however, warn about issues of consent, authenticity and the potential to interfere with the natural grieving process.
