COAS squash event offers $12,000 prize
Tournament starts in Islamabad today with Mehboob top-seeded.
KARACHI:
The Chief of Army Staff International 2011 starts today with top squash players vying for the winner’s trophy in the $12,000 event.
“It’s going to be my first tournament after our terrible performance at the World Team Championship last month,” third-seed Yasir Butt told The Express Tribune. “I am a bit nervous but losing matches at the international tournaments always takes away one’s confidence. For me the biggest competition will be the youngsters like Nasir Iqbal and Khwaja Adil Maqsood.”
Meanwhile, Syed Hamza Bukhari defeated Ali Abbas 3-0, Aqib Hanif outplayed Aurangzeb Mehmund 3-0, Maqsood overcame Muhammad Naeem 3-1 and Shiekh Saquib defeated Shoaib Hasan 3-2 in the qualifying round that concluded yesterday.
