Testament of Ann Lee set for digital release only with no physical media plans

Searchlight Pictures will release Testament of Ann Lee digitally on March 10 with no Blu-ray or DVD edition planned

Searchlight Pictures has announced that The Testament of Ann Lee, the historical drama musical directed by Mona Fastvold and starring Amanda Seyfried, will be released exclusively on digital platforms beginning March 10, 2026.

The announcement confirms that the film will not receive a Blu-ray, DVD, or 4K UHD physical media release. Instead, Searchlight plans to distribute the title solely through digital retailers and streaming platforms. The digital edition will include bonus features, such as a making-of documentary, typically reserved for physical releases.

The decision marks another example of a growing industry shift away from physical media distribution. Searchlight, which operates under The Walt Disney Company, has increasingly prioritized digital-first strategies for select titles. In recent years, collectors have noted limited or delayed physical releases for several studio projects.

The Testament of Ann Lee premiered during the fall festival circuit, where early reviews positioned it as a potential awards contender. Following its acquisition by Searchlight in late September, the film generated Oscar buzz, particularly surrounding Seyfried’s performance in the lead role. Despite early speculation, the film ultimately received no nominations at the latest Academy Awards.

The absence of a physical release may disappoint collectors and home media enthusiasts who continue to advocate for Blu-ray and 4K editions of prestige films. However, digital distribution remains a cost-effective strategy for studios navigating changing consumer habits in the streaming era.
