Pokémon is celebrating its 30th anniversary with the launch of three new themed aircraft in partnership with Japanese airline ANA.
The special designs are inspired by the original Pokemon Red, Pokemon Green and Pokemon Blue games, first released on February 27 1996.
The collaboration also marks 40 years since ANA operated its first international flight. The partnership between the two brands dates back to 1998, when the first Pokemon-themed plane entered service.
According to a press release, the Pokemon Jet Red will operate as a Boeing 787-8 on domestic routes. The Pokemon Jet Green will use a Boeing 787-9 for international services, while the Pokemon Jet Blue will be a Boeing 737-800 flying domestically.
“This project goes beyond just a livery, it’s about creating an immersive world that sparks imagination, inspires curiosity, and brings the joy of discovery to our passengers throughout their journey,” said Keiji Omae, Executive Vice President of Customer Experience at ANA.
“Whether you first began your journey on a Game Boy screen decades ago, or are currently exploring new regions through your mobile apps, we invite you to take your next ‘adventure’ into the real world with ANA,” he continued.
“Many of our passengers flying with us today were the kids who marveled at our first Pokémon Jet in 1998. We are honored to be the wings that carry not just passengers, but also their cherished memories and future adventures.”
ANA stated that the three aircraft designs will connect to tell a cohesive story based on the themes of Red, Green and Blue. Full visuals and launch dates are expected in May.
The planes will join the existing Pikachu Jet NH and Eevee Jet NH as part of the Pokemon Air Adventures project.
