Medical varsity forms body after trainee's suicide bid
Social media claims of workplace stress remain unverified as inquiry begins

A postgraduate trainee at King Edward Medical University (KEMU) allegedly attempted suicide earlier this week, prompting the university to form a high-level inquiry committee to investigate the incident.
The trainee, specialising in gynaecology at Lady Willingdon Hospital, reportedly consumed sleeping pills at her residence in an apparent suicide attempt.
She was immediately shifted to Mayo Hospital, where she received emergency treatment and was stabilised. Hospital sources confirmed that her condition is now out of danger, and she has been discharged to continue recovery at home.
Amid social media speculation suggesting workplace harassment and institutional pressure, university officials have refrained from commenting on unverified claims.
Screenshots allegedly posted by the trainee surfaced online, in which she reportedly expressed mental distress and reluctance to engage in "academic politics," though these claims have not been independently verified.
In response, KEMU Vice Chancellor Prof Mahmood Ayaz confirmed that a six-member inquiry committee has been constituted to examine the matter.
The committee is chaired by Prof Muhammad Imran and includes Prof Zahra Ishrat, Prof Ali Madih Hashmi, Prof Samina Saeed, Dr Riasat Ali, and Dr Muhammad Abu Bakar.
