Robert Cosby Jr, the 23-year-old son of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Mary Cosby, has died in Utah, according to police.
Officers responded to a call for a possible overdose at Mary Cosby’s home shortly before 6pm local time on February 23. Dispatch audio obtained by media outlets stated that a 23-year-old male was “not conscious” and “not breathing” when emergency services were contacted.
He was given one dose of Narcan, an opioid-reversing nasal spray, as responders treated what was described as a “full arrest/medical emergency”. Police later confirmed that the incident became a death investigation. The official cause of death has not yet been released and remains under review by the medical examiner.
Mary Cosby wrote on Instagram that her son was “called home to the Lord” and added: “We are grateful for your prayers and trust in the Lord to carry us through this time of sorrow.”
Bravo, the network that airs The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, said in a statement: “We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Mary’s beloved son, Robert Jr. Mary is a cherished member of our family, and our thoughts, love, and deepest condolences are with her and her loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”
Recent seasons of the series documented Robert Cosby Jr’s struggles with mental health and substance abuse. During an on-camera conversation, he told his mother: “I just felt like a stain, I felt like a stain. I just felt like this world wasn't for me.” He later entered rehabilitation.
Production on the show’s upcoming season has been paused following his death.
