DERA GHAZI KHAN:

The Border Military Police (BMP) seized silver and narcotics worth more than Rs100 million during a major crackdown on smuggling along the inter-provincial border, officials said on Tuesday.

Addressing a press conference at the Baloch Levy Line, Commandant Amir Taimur said the operation was carried out over the past 24 hours as part of a special campaign against drug trafficking and illegal trade.

Personnel from Rakhi Gaj, Bawata and Khar police stations jointly participated in the action.

During the operation, authorities recovered 41 kilogrammes of silver, 13kg of crystal meth (ice) and 55kg of hashish, with an estimated combined value exceeding Rs100 million.

The contraband was allegedly being smuggled from Balochistan into Punjab.

The commandant said timely intelligence and effective check-post blockades foiled the large-scale smuggling attempt.

Five suspects were arrested along with their vehicles, and cases have been registered at the relevant police stations. Further investigation is underway.

Amir Taimur reiterated that the Border Military Police is pursuing a zero-tolerance policy against smuggling and narcotics.

He said border checking mechanisms are being strengthened through improved intelligence-sharing, joint operations and strict legal action to curb illegal activities and protect the younger generation from drugs.
