First Time Caller movie adaptation in development from Tell Me Lies producer
A film adaptation of B.K. Borison’s 2025 romance novel First Time Caller is officially in development.
The movie rights have been optioned by A Cup of Happy Productions, the banner founded by producer Daryl Steiger.
The project will be produced by Laura Lewis, known for her work as an executive producer on Tell Me Lies. Amy Huckabay has been tapped to write the screenplay, while author B.K. Borison will serve as an executive producer on the adaptation.
First Time Caller is the first installment in Borison’s planned “Heartstrings” trilogy. The romance novel follows Aiden Valentine, a radio host who has secretly lost faith in love despite hosting a Baltimore romance hotline. His life changes when a young caller seeks dating advice for her mother, Lucie Stone. The on-air moment goes viral, placing Lucie’s personal life in the spotlight and setting up a modern love story inspired by Sleepless in Seattle.
The official synopsis describes a behind-the-scenes romance that develops as Lucie navigates public attention and unexpected feelings for the temperamental radio host. The story blends themes of second chances, single parenthood, and media-driven relationships.
Borison said the novel was written as a “love letter to love” and expressed enthusiasm about seeing the characters brought to screen. Casting details and a release timeline for the First Time Caller movie have not yet been announced.
The adaptation adds to the growing slate of romance novel movie adaptations currently in development across film and streaming platforms.
