Noah Cyrus pens first movie song for Colleen Hoover’s ‘Reminders of Him’
Noah Cyrus is stepping into the world of film music for the first time. The Grammy-nominated artist penned and recorded ‘Light Over the Hill,’ the end credits track for Universal’s adaptation of Reminders of Him.
The film, based on the bestselling novel by Colleen Hoover, is directed by Vanessa Caswill and stars Maika Monroe as Kenna, a young woman returning to her Wyoming hometown after serving five years in prison for a tragic mistake. Determined to reconnect with her daughter Diem, Kenna faces resistance from nearly everyone around her, except for local bar owner Ledger, played by Tyriq Withers. The ensemble cast also includes Rudy Pankow, Lauren Graham, Bradley Whitford, Nicholas Duvernay and Lainey Wilson.
For Cyrus, writing a song for a movie has long been a career goal. When Caswill approached her about crafting a track for the end credits, the singer jumped at the opportunity. After watching the film privately with the director, Cyrus was moved by its themes of redemption and rebirth.
“I had this overwhelming emotion of how freeing it is to make a new start,” she said of the experience. That feeling became the foundation for ‘Light Over the Hill,’ a folky, bluegrass-inspired track built around organic instrumentation and airy production. Cyrus co-wrote and co-produced the song with PJ Harding, channeling what she describes as the film’s sense of hope and renewal.
The title itself carries layered meaning. For Cyrus, light represents love, second chances and the possibility of moving forward, sentiments that mirror Kenna’s journey in the story. She aimed to create a song that not only reflected the emotional arc of the film but also felt authentic to its Wyoming setting and close-knit community.
While her older sister Miley Cyrus recently contributed an end credits song to ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash,’ Noah says the parallel career moments were purely coincidental. The sisters only realized they were both working on film tracks after the news became public.
‘Reminders of Him’ hits theaters March 13, and Cyrus will hear her song in its final cinematic form for the first time at the Los Angeles premiere. The experience, she says, has left her eager to explore more opportunities in film and television music.
