Colombian star Kali Uchis canceled her Feb. 22 concert in Guadalajara after Mexican authorities confirmed the death of Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, known as El Mencho, leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).

Mexico’s defense ministry said Oseguera was fatally wounded during a military operation in Jalisco and died while being airlifted to Mexico City. The operation triggered unrest across several states, with burning vehicles, highway blockades and clashes reported in parts of western and northern Mexico.

Uchis had been set to perform at Auditorio Telmex in Zapopan as part of her “The Sincerely, Tour.” The venue confirmed the show was canceled, not postponed, and refunds would be issued.

Her Monterrey concert went ahead as planned, and her Mexico City date remained unchanged as of Sunday night.

Other major performances are still expected to proceed. Jesse & Joy and Bryan Adams have upcoming dates in Guadalajara, while Air Supply is also scheduled to perform at Auditorio Telmex. In Mexico City, Shakira is set to perform a free concert at the Zócalo on March 1, marking her first appearance at the iconic plaza in two decades.

Jalisco Governor Pablo Lemus Navarro urged residents to remain at home, and President Claudia Sheinbaum said federal and state authorities were coordinating security efforts as violence disrupted flights and Liga MX matches.
