The Punjab government has approved the installation of 30 modern fog cannons on electric trucks at a cost of Rs3 billion to control smog and reduce dust in major urban and industrial areas.

This initiative is part of the provincial government's comprehensive clean air and climate-resilient strategy, aimed at curbing air pollution and strengthening the ecosystem.

According to official sources, the fog cannon project will be particularly effective in pollution-affected cities, helping to reduce harmful airborne particles. A sum of Rs2.25 billion has been allocated under the Lahore Air Improvement Framework, through which an integrated clean-air program will be launched.

For the first time, real-time identification of air pollution sources will be possible in Lahore via the Super Station System, while modern air quality governance will be implemented under the "One City, One Policy" initiative.

More than 50 modern air quality monitors have already been installed across Punjab, alongside an automated quality assurance system to ensure transparency and accuracy of data. A digital environmental monitoring system is also being activated to control industrial emissions effectively.

Approval has been granted for the upgradation of environmental laboratories, installation of advanced equipment.
