Lee Cronin resurrects ‘The Mummy’ in chilling new horror reboot
Lee Cronin’s ‘The Mummy’ drops its first trailer ahead of an April 2026 cinema release

Lee Cronin is bringing one of horror’s most iconic monsters back to the big screen with a brutal new vision in Lee Cronin’s The Mummy. Following the record breaking success of Evil Dead Rise, the Irish filmmaker is stepping into classic territory with what is being described as an audacious and twisted retelling of the legendary tale.
The official trailer opens with the haunting words, “For dust you are,” immediately setting a grim and unsettling tone. Rather than revisiting the familiar adventure style associated with past adaptations, this version leans fully into psychological and supernatural horror. The story centres on a journalist whose young daughter vanishes into the desert without a trace. Eight years later, she suddenly reappears. What should be a miracle reunion quickly spirals into something far darker, as the family realises that whatever has returned may not truly be their child.
The film stars Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, May Calamawy, Natalie Grace and Veronica Falcón. Lee Cronin not only directs but also writes the screenplay, continuing the creative control that defined his work on Evil Dead Rise. Producing alongside him are James Wan and Jason Blum, two of the most influential names in modern horror cinema, through their companies Atomic Monster and Blumhouse.
Behind the camera, Cronin reunites with several trusted collaborators while also assembling a seasoned team of film artisans. Dave Garbett serves as director of photography, with Nick Bassett handling production design and Bryan Shaw editing. The film’s score is composed by Stephen McKeon, whose music in Evil Dead Rise was widely praised for amplifying tension. Costume design comes from Joanna Eatwell, while casting is overseen by Terri Taylor and Sarah Domeier Lindo.
The project is backed by New Line Cinema and will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures. Lee Cronin’s The Mummy is set for release in North America on April 17, 2026, including IMAX screenings, with international audiences seeing it from April 15.
