Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly known as Prince Andrew, was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of misconduct in public office, marking a significant escalation in long-running scrutiny surrounding his past public role and associations.

Thames Valley Police confirmed that a man in his 60s from Norfolk had been detained as part of an investigation into allegations connected to his time serving as the United Kingdom’s trade envoy. Authorities are examining claims that he may have shared sensitive or confidential information with the late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein during that period.

The arrest took place at Wood Farm on the Sandringham estate, with police also carrying out searches at properties linked to Mountbatten-Windsor in Norfolk and Berkshire as part of the ongoing investigation. Officials stressed that the inquiry remains in its early stages and that maintaining the integrity of the investigation is a priority, given the intense public interest surrounding the case.

The allegations resurfaced after the release of extensive documents tied to U.S. investigations into Epstein, prompting renewed calls for authorities to review Mountbatten-Windsor’s conduct while he held an official public role. The former royal has previously denied wrongdoing related to Epstein and has not yet publicly commented on the arrest.

Misconduct in public office is a serious common law offense in the United Kingdom that can carry severe penalties if proven. Investigators have indicated that updates will be provided as the case progresses.
