Lil Poppa, signed to Collective Music Group, dies at 25 as officials investigate cause

Rapper Lil Poppa has died at the age of 25, with authorities confirming that the cause of death remains under investigation.
The artist, whose real name was Janarious Mykel Wheeler, was pronounced dead on February 18 at approximately 11:20am local time, according to the Fulton County Medical Examiner in Georgia.
Multiple media outlets reported that officials have not yet released further details regarding the circumstances of his death.
The medical examiner’s office did not immediately respond to requests for additional comment.
Lil Poppa, who was based in Jacksonville, Florida, had built a following in recent years with a string of releases. In 2022, he signed with Collective Music Group, the label founded by rapper Yo Gotti. During his career, he released tracks including “Love & War,” “Mind Over Matter,” and “HAPPY TEARS.”
His 16-track album Almost Normal Again was released in August. Just days before his death, he unveiled a new single titled “Out of Town Bae” on February 13. He had also been scheduled to perform in New Orleans next month.
Lil Poppa emerged as part of a new generation of Southern hip-hop artists, gaining recognition for his melodic style and reflective lyrics. His signing to Collective Music Group marked a significant step in his career, aligning him with an established roster of artists in the rap industry.
An investigation into the cause of death is ongoing. Further details have not yet been made public.
