HoYoverse has filed a lawsuit in the United States seeking to shut down a major Genshin Impact wiki, alleging the site published unreleased content from its games.
According to reports, the studio is asking a US court to close the HomDGCat wiki, claiming the operator unlawfully obtained and shared material from Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail, two of its live service titles.
In its legal complaint, HoYoverse alleges the individual behind the site used their role as a wiki operator to solicit beta test files from players who were bound by confidentiality agreements. The company claims those files were then published before official release.
The filing states that the site contains thousands of unreleased assets, including artwork, dialogue and gameplay details.
HoYoverse argues that the alleged actions violate US law and have “negatively impacted public interest and enthusiasm” for official announcements, reduced anticipation for future updates and exposed confidential development plans.
Among the claims listed in the complaint are copyright infringement, trade secret misappropriation, breach of contract, circumvention of technological protection measures and interference with contractual relations.
HoYoverse says it previously issued multiple DMCA takedown notices, emails and cease-and-desist letters in an effort to resolve the matter.
According to the company, the site’s operator at one point agreed to restrict updates to live game data. However, HoYoverse alleges that the distribution of beta materials continued.
The company is seeking monetary damages as well as a permanent injunction that would require the HomDGCat website and related social media accounts to be taken offline.
At the time of publication, the site remains accessible and there has been no public response from its operator. The case is ongoing.
