Beyond nuts and bolts: Future engineers show their creative streak
Each participant was allowed two hours to do whatever they could .

“Be it debates, theatre, festivals, or art, it is important that the students express themselves,” said Sohail Fazil Usmani, the controller of student affairs at NED University of Engineering and Technology, at the display and prize distribution ceremony of a two-day, photography, art and crafts competition, on Thursday.
There were six categories, photography, poster-making, calligraphy, painting, handicrafts, and sketching. For the photographers, there were two themes, working hands and the problems at NED. There was a separate competition for “on-the-spot” work in each category, which was held on Wednesday. Each participant was allowed two hours to do what they wanted.
About 170 submissions from both campuses of the university were received. The ceremony began with a few videos on the revival of social culture, about the competition and the art work that was produced.
The judges were Syed Zakir Hussain, an executive member of Karachi Film and TV Journalists Association, and Amir Mirza, a graphic designer and a professor at the visual studies department of Karachi University.
