Chris Hemsworth has reflected on how sharing details of his family’s struggle with Alzheimer’s disease made him question the future of his career.

The actor, who explored his father Craig’s diagnosis in the documentary A Road Trip to Remember, admitted he was concerned audiences might view him differently after he revealed his genetic predisposition for the condition.

Hemsworth told The Guardian he wondered if fans were “no longer going to believe” him as the leading man he has been known for. “I wondered if I was letting people too far in,” he said. “Are they no longer going to believe in the action star or the Marvel character? And do I want people to know my fears and insecurities to this level?”

In the 2025 Disney+ documentary, the actor took his father on a journey to places from their past in an effort to support memory function through social connection. Hemsworth described the project as deeply meaningful. “It was so deeply personal. It was a love letter to my father. It empowered him for a period, and stimulated memories that were being taken away from him,” he said.

The Thor star had previously spoken about his family history with the illness in the 2022 National Geographic docuseries Limitless, where he revealed that his grandfather had Alzheimer’s and that he is considered far more likely to develop the condition himself.

The disclosure prompted him to rethink aspects of his life and workload, though he has continued to work on major film projects.

Despite his concerns, Hemsworth has continued to appear in high-profile roles and has said he hopes that being open about the subject can help raise awareness.
