BLACKPINK's Jisoo is set to return to television in Netflix’s romantic comedy Boyfriend on Demand, marking her first K-drama role since appearing in the zombie thriller Newtopia.

The series pairs Jisoo with singer-actor Seo In-guk and is scheduled to premiere globally on Netflix on March 6. The streamer confirmed the release date with a teaser unveiled on February 5, opening with the question, “Worked to the bone, sick of dating, but still want romance?”

Jisoo plays Seo Mi-rae, an overworked webtoon producer struggling with professional pressure and relationship fatigue. Seo In-guk stars as Park Kyeong-nam, her colleague and rival, whose constant competitiveness adds tension to their working relationship. As reality becomes increasingly exhausting, Mi-rae turns to a futuristic solution: Monthly Boyfriend, an AI-powered dating simulation that allows users to customise their ideal partner without emotional demands.

The subscription-based programme offers a sequence of carefully curated virtual dates, ranging from yacht trips and beach getaways to traditional Korean settings and a K-pop concert. However, the series suggests that the boundary between artificial connection and real emotion may not be as clear as expected.

Netflix summarised the premise by stating, “An exhausted webtoon producer escapes reality through a subscription-based virtual dating simulation program, where she gets to experience the dates of her dreams.”

The drama asks whether an algorithm can provide genuine love, a question that sits at the centre of the 10-episode series. Directed by Kim Jung-sik, Boyfriend on Demand was filmed in the Philippines and features a supporting cast including Gong Min-jeung, Kim Ah-young, Seo Kang-joon, Lee Soo-hyuk, Kim Young-dae and Lee Jae-wook.

Originally planned for broadcast on South Korean network MBC, the series later secured a global release through Netflix. Early reactions to the teaser were swift, with fans welcoming Jisoo’s return to romantic drama and anticipating the show’s blend of technology, workplace tension and modern dating anxieties.
