Disturbing new details have emerged in the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today show anchor Savannah Guthrie, as investigators increasingly believe she was taken from her Arizona home by force.

Authorities are now reviewing evidence that appears to show a blood trail leading away from Guthrie’s front door, along with blood splatter on her porch, according to video footage from the scene. Additional blood was reportedly found inside the home, and investigators are examining signs of forced entry as part of what police have classified as a crime scene.

The developments come as law enforcement continues to investigate an alleged ransom demand connected to Guthrie’s disappearance. Police have acknowledged receiving information related to a possible ransom note and say all tips and leads are being treated seriously, with detectives coordinating closely with the FBI. Officials have not confirmed whether the message is authentic.

Nancy Guthrie was reported missing around noon on Sunday, Feb 1. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has said investigators believe she was abducted overnight and did not leave her home willingly. “There were indicators at the scene that suggest she did not go on her own,” Nanos previously said.

Guthrie was last seen around 9:45pm. Saturday in the Catalina Foothills area near East Skyline Drive and North Campbell Avenue. She is described as 5-foot-5, about 150 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.

Police have emphasized that Guthrie has no known cognitive impairments but does require daily medication and has limited mobility, increasing urgency around the search. K-9 units and air support have been deployed, and investigators are canvassing the area while reviewing potential persons of interest.

Savannah Guthrie issued a statement thanking the public for their support and prayers, saying the family remains focused on her mother’s safe return.

The investigation remains active, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
