Singer-songwriter Alex Warren has spoken publicly about technical problems that disrupted his performance at the 68th Grammy Awards on Sunday night, according to Billboard.

Following the ceremony, Warren addressed the situation on Instagram, posting a video demonstrating the distorted and delayed audio he said he heard through his in-ear monitors while onstage. “When you’re performing at the Grammys and all you hear is this in your ears,” he wrote alongside the clip. In a separate caption, he added, “This would only happen to me…”

The exact cause of the technical malfunction has not been publicly explained. As of publication, neither the Recording Academy nor broadcast partner CBS had commented on the issue.

Despite the setback, the performance marked Warren’s first appearance on the Grammy stage. His nomination followed a breakout year driven by the success of “Ordinary,” which spent 10 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The Best New Artist award ultimately went to Olivia Dean, who concluded a successful year that included major festival performances and the release of her album The Art of Loving.

Representatives for Warren and the Recording Academy had not issued further statements regarding the performance difficulties at the time of reporting.
