Sexyy Red faces backlash after performing at Donald Trump's adviser's wedding

Sexyy Red has come under criticism after performing at the wedding of a senior adviser to President Donald Trump, prompting renewed debate over her apparent political alignment.
The rapper attended and performed at the wedding of Alex Bruesewitz, who oversees President Trump’s outside digital media efforts, and his bride Carolina Urrea, a model and former Miss Nevada. The event took place in Florida and was attended by several high-profile figures, including Nicki Minaj, Mike Tyson, Amber Rose, Donald Trump Jr., White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt and Federal Communications Commission chair Brendan Carr.
Social media footage from the wedding shows Sexyy Red performing her song “Get It Sexyy” on stage. Claims that 50 Cent also performed were later denied by his representatives, who said he appeared at a separate event in New York.

The performance has been widely interpreted online as a show of support for Trump and the MAGA movement, particularly given Bruesewitz’s role within the administration. Sexyy Red’s political positioning has shifted repeatedly since her rise to mainstream attention in 2023.
That year, she publicly praised Trump while discussing pandemic-era stimulus payments. “But once he started getting Black people out of jail and giving people that free money. Awe, baby, we love Trump. We need him back in office,” she said at the time, adding, “I love Trump,” and “We need him back because, baby, them checks.”
In 2024, however, the rapper appeared to distance herself from Trump, announcing on social media that she had voted for Kamala Harris in the presidential election.
Sexyy Red now joins a growing list of hip-hop artists who have faced backlash for perceived MAGA associations. In recent years, Snoop Dogg and Nelly have both been criticised for performing at Trump-related events, while Nicki Minaj has become increasingly vocal in her support for the president.
