HAFIZABAD:

Work has formally begun on a major sewerage scheme in Hafizabad under the Punjab Development Programme, with an estimated cost of Rs7.5 billion, officials said. The project aims to address long-standing drainage and sanitation problems while improving the city's urban infrastructure and public health standards.

The foundation stone was laid by Coordinator to the Chief Minister Punjab and MNA Saira Afzal Tarar, along with Deputy Commissioner Abdul Razzaq and WASA Managing Director Bilal Feeroz Joiya. A large number of public representatives, officials and local residents attended the ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Saira Afzal Tarar described the initiative as a "game changer" for the city, saying the significant investment would enhance civic facilities and improve residents' quality of life.

She thanked Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for allocating funds for what she termed a critical public welfare project, adding that the scheme would contribute to Hafizabad's social, economic and environmental development.

Under the project, around 73 kilometres of underground sewerage lines will be laid in the inner city and adjoining areas.
