Billie Eilish sparked widespread discussion at the 2026 Grammy Awards after using her acceptance speech to criticise US immigration enforcement, prompting an online backlash aimed not at the singer but at a fellow celebrity who mocked her remarks.
Eilish took the stage alongside her brother Finneas to accept Song of the Year for “Wildflower” and began with words of gratitude. She then addressed the political climate in the United States, telling the audience, “As grateful as I feel, I honestly don’t feel like I need to say anything but no one is illegal on stolen land.”
Continuing, she added, “And, yeah, it’s just really hard to know what to say and what to do right now, and I feel really hopeful in this room, and I feel like we just need to keep fighting and speaking up and protesting, and our voices really do matter, and the people matter, and f**k ICE,” with the final words censored during the broadcast. She closed by saying, “That’s all I’m going to say. Sorry. Thank you so much.”
Sports broadcaster and outspoken MAGA supporter Emily Austin, who was seated in the audience, filmed herself reacting to the speech by rolling her eyes. She later shared the video on social media with the caption: “Live reaction to Billie Eilish going on a ‘F**k ICE’ rant. Painful to listen to.”

One comment read, “Recording yourself at an event you had to pay to be at but had no business being at because it has nothing to do with you,” while another said, “Filming your reaction like this is beyond cringe and performative.”
Eilish was not alone in addressing immigration issues during the ceremony. Singer Kehlani told the audience, “I wanted to say f**k ICE,” while Gloria Estefan urged compassion, highlighting the impact of enforcement policies on families and children.
The exchange added to a night where political expression again intersected with music’s most prominent awards stage.
