Gesaffelstein became one of the most discussed figures of the 2026 Grammy Awards after winning alongside Lady Gaga and making an appearance that prompted renewed public interest in his career.
He arrived on the red carpet wearing a striking mask, widely believed to have been created by Ironhead Studio, a specialist in detailed character and creature masks whose work has featured in major motion pictures, and which has previously collaborated with the music producer.
The French DJ and producer, whose real name is Mike Lévy, won the Grammy Award for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical for his remix of Gaga’s “Abracadabra”. The track originally appeared on her 2025 album Mayhem, which he cowrote and coproduced. Gesaffelstein also featured on the album track “Killah”, a collaboration Gaga has frequently highlighted in interviews.
Born in Lyon, France, Gesaffelstein launched his career in 2008 with a debut EP before founding his own record label the following year. His stage name combines the German word Gesamtkunstwerk, meaning “total artwork”, with a reference to Albert Einstein.
Dubbed the "Dark Prince of Techno," over the years, Gessafelstein has worked with high-profile artists including Kanye West on Yeezus, The Weeknd on My Dear Melancholy, Pharrell and Charli XCX. He has released three solo albums: Aleph in 2013, Hyperion in 2019 and Gamma in 2024, as well as scoring the 2015 French film Disorder.
His Grammy win has placed a fresh spotlight on a career long defined by meticulous production and a distinctive creative identity.
