ISLAMABAD:

The National Dialogue Committee (NDC) on Saturday expressed "serious concern" over the health of PTI founder Imran Khan, calling for the immediate formation of an independent medical board to assess the former prime minister's condition and for a meeting to be arranged with his personal physician.

The move comes two days after the government confirmed that Imran had undergone a medical procedure.

The NDC meeting was held in Islamabad with Fawad Chaudhry, Imran Ismail, Mahmood Maulvi, Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif, former minister Mohammad Ali Durrani, ex-Karachi mayor Waseem Akhter and veteran politician Munir Ahmad Khan as participants.

In a joint statement, the group demanded the immediate formation of an independent medical board, adding that a meeting be arranged between Imran and his personal physician Dr Faisal Sultan.

It also called for meetings to be facilitated between the PTI fonder and his family, including his sons, saying this would ease public and familial anxiety and help counter what it described as growing international criticism of Pakistan over fundamental human, legal and democratic rights.

The NDC leaders strongly condemned the incumbent regime's attitude, stating that the federal and Punjab governments' approach toward Imran's treatment is regrettable, undemocratic.

"The ruling coalition of PML-N and PPP has always preached against politicising health issues, yet their actions against Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, Dr Yasmin Rashid, and other political prisoners—based on political opposition—are in clear violation of their own past statements, claims, and advice," the statement said.
