Sindh announces Feb 4 holiday for schools, colleges

The Sindh government has declared a holiday for all public and private educational institutions across the province on February 4 on account of Shab-e-Barat, which will be observed on the night of February 3.
According to a notification issued by the Sindh Education and Literacy Department, the decision was taken during a meeting of the steering committee’s sub-committee. "In pursuance of that decision, all public and private educational institutions under the administrative control of the Sindh Education and Literacy Department will remain closed on Wednesday, February 4, 2026."

Shab-e-Barat, which falls on the 15th of Sha’ban, the eighth month of the Islamic calendar, is believed to be a night when destinies for the coming year are determined. Many Muslims also observe fasting on the day following Shab-e-Barat as an act of devotion, seeking spiritual purification and blessings.
It is observed by Muslims as a night of prayer, repentance, and seeking forgiveness, with many believers spending the night engaged in worship. Traditionally, people visit graveyards to offer prayers at the graves of their loved ones, while mosques and shrines remain illuminated to mark the night.
Special religious gatherings, including Quranic recitations, sermons, and prayers, are usually held in mosques and religious institutions. Scholars and clerics deliver sermons highlighting the religious significance of the night, which is widely regarded as a time for seeking divine mercy and forgiveness.
