Sydney Sweeney has spoken publicly about her former relationship with Jonathan Davino, explaining why she chose to keep the seven-and-a-half-year romance largely out of the public eye.
The actor discussed the relationship in an interview with Cosmopolitan, describing a long-term commitment that she deliberately kept private.
“I was in a relationship for a very long time, for seven and a half years, and I never talked about it. I was very private,” Sweeney said. She added, “No one would ever see us. I think it’s important to have some things for myself.”
Sweeney and Davino were first linked several years ago and became engaged in March 2022. Despite the engagement, the pair later separated, officially ending their relationship in March 2025.
Following news of the split, sources told US Weekly that the couple had been dealing with “major issues”, with Sweeney’s demanding work schedule cited as a contributing factor. According to those reports, she was “extremely busy” and found it difficult to manage wedding planning alongside her professional commitments.
Sweeney later addressed her personal life while speaking to The Sunday Times in May, where she said she was enjoying being single. “I’m learning a lot about myself, spending more time with my friends. And I’m loving it,” she said.
In her more recent comments, Sweeney also spoke about what she looks for in a partner now. She said she values someone who is “athletic and outgoing and funny”, adding that her lifestyle requires a partner who can keep pace with her interests.
Reflecting on her independence, she said: “Look, I am a boss in my life. I take control…go after what I want. I am confident, and I am successful, and I don’t actually need a man.”
Since the breakup, Sweeney has been linked to Scooter Braun, after the two were seen together in Italy last August. Neither has publicly commented on the nature of their relationship.
