Olympic gold medalist Sha’Carri Richardson was arrested Thursday in Florida after being accused of driving at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour, according to Orange County jail booking records.

Richardson, 25, was taken into custody and booked on a charge of dangerous excessive speeding at 100 mph or more. Records show her bond was set at $500. USA Track and Field and a representative for Richardson did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Richardson is one of the most prominent figures in global sprinting. At the 2024 Paris Olympics, she won silver in the women’s 100 meters and earned a gold medal as part of the U.S. 4x100-meter relay team. She also competed at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo in 2025.

The arrest follows previous off-track incidents involving the sprinter. In August, Richardson was arrested in connection with an alleged altercation involving her boyfriend at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. She later apologized publicly, and the incident report indicated that her boyfriend, fellow sprinter Christian Coleman, did not wish to press charges. In 2021, Richardson served a one-month suspension after testing positive for THC at the U.S. Olympic trials, which prevented her from competing in the 100 meters at the Tokyo Olympics.

Under Florida’s “super speeder” law, which took effect July 1, drivers can be charged for traveling 50 mph over the speed limit or for driving at speeds above 100 mph. A first conviction may result in up to 30 days in jail or a fine of $500. Repeat offenses carry stiffer penalties, including longer jail terms, higher fines, and potential license revocation.
