Split Fiction movie starring Sydney Sweeney receives script update from Josef Fares
The planned film adaptation of the video game Split Fiction has taken a significant step forward, according to the game’s director Josef Fares.
In a recent interview, Fares confirmed that the production team has received a first draft of the movie’s script, signaling continued momentum for the project in development.
The screenplay is written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the duo best known for their work on the Deadpool films. Fares noted that simply reaching the script stage is notable in Hollywood, where many announced adaptations fail to progress beyond early discussions.
Actress Sydney Sweeney is attached to star in the Split Fiction movie, while filmmaker Jon M. Chu, known for directing Wicked, is set to helm the adaptation. Fares said he recently met Sweeney and described her as “super chill,” adding that she appears enthusiastic about bringing the game to the big screen.
Fares also acknowledged that the story will need changes to work as a film rather than an interactive game. He explained that while the original title relies heavily on gameplay mechanics and player interaction, the movie will need to focus more on narrative and cinematic storytelling.
Released in March 2025, Split Fiction became a commercial success and ranked among the top-selling games of the year in the United States. Its strong performance helped spark interest in a film version, as Hollywood continues to pursue adaptations of popular video game properties.
While no release date has been announced, the completed first script draft suggests the Split Fiction movie is moving steadily through development.
