Actor Antony Starr, best known for his portrayal of Homelander in The Boys, has officially signed on to star in and executive produce a new Netflix drama series titled Breakers. The project marks Starr’s first major television role following his long-running appearance on the Amazon Prime Video hit.
Breakers is an eight-episode drama set within Australia’s surfing culture. The story follows two American backpackers who travel through the country and become immersed in a seemingly idyllic coastal surfing community. At the center of that world is Brando, a charismatic yet mysterious leader portrayed by Starr, whose influence begins to reveal darker undertones beneath the group’s carefree exterior.
Production on the series is currently underway in Western Australia, making Breakers the first Netflix series ever filmed in the region. The project is expected to provide a significant economic boost locally, employing more than 100 cast and crew members and contributing millions to the regional screen industry.
The series is produced by Clerkenwell Films in collaboration with BBC Studios Productions Australia, with support from Screenwest and the Western Australian government.
Breakers was created and written by Pete Jackson, known for his work on Somewhere Boy and The Death of Bunny Munro. Direction will be handled by Mary Nighy and Ng Choon Ping, with Starr also serving as an executive producer alongside the cr =eative team.
The new role arrives as The Boys approaches its fifth and final season, scheduled for release in 2026. Starr is expected to complete his run as Homelander before transitioning fully into the Netflix series.
While an official release date for Breakers has not yet been announced, the show is expected to debut globally following the completion of post-production.
