Dispatch Nintendo Switch port criticised by fans over default censorship

Dispatch players criticise the Nintendo Switch version after discovering game is fully censored by default

Fans of AdHoc Studio’s superhero title Dispatch have expressed frustration following the release of its Nintendo Switch version, which launched in January 2026 with full censorship enabled by default.

Dispatch debuted in late 2025 to strong player reception. Developed by a team of former Telltale Games staff, the game focuses on the everyday lives of superheroes, following former hero Robert Robertson as he works as an emergency dispatcher in Torrance, California, directing superpowered responders to crises across the city.

The game is known for its explicit dialogue, crude humour, romantic scenes and moments of full-frontal nudity. On PC and PlayStation 5, players can choose whether to enable or disable censorship.

These options also allow users to replace copyrighted music with royalty-free tracks, features that some players use when streaming or playing in shared spaces.

However, players discovered that the Nintendo Switch version removes these settings entirely. Instead, all nudity is covered by black boxes, swearing is bleeped, and certain audio elements have been removed, including sound effects from a romantic dream sequence involving the character Invisigal.

The change was not disclosed prior to launch, prompting criticism from players on social media. One user wrote on X that they were “really disappointed” by the lack of a censorship toggle and said they would have chosen another platform if the changes had been made clear.

Another argued that the censorship “significantly damage[s] the experience”, adding that even Dispatch artbooks appear altered on the platform.

Some fans have also highlighted what they see as an inconsistency, noting that other mature-rated games available on the Nintendo eShop include explicit content without comparable alterations.

At the time of writing, AdHoc Studio has not publicly addressed the concerns. In response, some players have reported seeking refunds and purchasing Dispatch on other platforms.

Despite the controversy, Dispatch remains popular and is eligible for consideration at the 2026 Game Awards, despite its late 2025 release.
