Ryan Reynolds is standing firmly by Blake Lively’s side after a series of his private messages were unsealed as part of Lively’s ongoing legal fight with It Ends With Us director and co-star Justin Baldoni.
The newly public texts, revealed through court filings, show Reynolds fiercely defending his wife amid allegations of sexual harassment and retaliation on the film’s set. A representative for the actor addressed the backlash this week, making it clear that Reynolds has no regrets about speaking up.
“Yes, Ryan got involved, what husband wouldn’t support his wife and the mother of his children?” the rep said in a statement to Puck News. According to the representative, Reynolds witnessed Lively navigating the situation “privately and respectfully” before facing what he believes was retaliation for raising concerns.
“If anything, Ryan feels like he wasn’t angry enough,” the rep added, emphasizing Reynolds’ belief in a safe workplace free of harassment. “Then, now and always.”
The controversy escalated after unsealed messages showed Reynolds using scathing language when discussing Baldoni with industry executives. In one exchange from July 2024, Reynolds allegedly described Baldoni as a “predatory fraudster” and an “inexplicably toxic mess.”
In another text sent during the film’s opening weekend, Reynolds expressed frustration that Lively was dealing with online speculation instead of celebrating the movie’s box office success.
“She WILLED this weekend into reality,” Reynolds reportedly wrote, adding that Lively should not be subjected to narratives painting her as “controlling.”
Lively filed her lawsuit against Baldoni in December 2024, accusing him of sexual harassment and retaliation. Baldoni has denied the allegations and maintains that the evidence does not support Lively’s claims. His attorney, Bryan Freedman, said the released messages instead undermine her case and insisted the legal process will ultimately clear Baldoni’s name.
Baldoni previously countersued Lively and Reynolds, alleging defamation and extortion, but that countersuit has since been dismissed by a judge.
The actress is seeking more than $160 million in damages, with the trial scheduled for May 2026 in New York. Baldoni’s legal team has argued that Lively and Reynolds leveraged their Hollywood influence to damage his reputation, a claim their representatives strongly dispute.
The fallout has already had professional consequences. Baldoni was dropped by his agency, WME, shortly after the lawsuit became public, though the agency has denied any pressure from Reynolds or Lively to do so.
As more documents continue to emerge, the case remains one of the most closely watched legal showdowns in Hollywood, one that has pulled back the curtain on behind-the-scenes tensions surrounding one of 2024’s most talked-about films.
