“I am calling it off”: Arijit Singh stuns fans with sudden career announcement
Arijit Singh’s sudden Instagram post sparked confusion and concern among fans

Arijit Singh sent shockwaves through the music world on Tuesday evening after sharing a brief but emotional message that hinted at a major turning point in his career, leaving fans confused, concerned and searching for answers.
Posting on Instagram, the singer thanked listeners for the affection and loyalty they have shown him over the years, describing his time in music as a “wonderful journey.”
He concluded the message with a striking declaration: “I am calling it off,” without immediately explaining what the decision involved.
The ambiguity triggered an immediate outpouring of reactions online. Fans flooded the comments section with disbelief, many asking if the announcement was a prank, while others urged the singer to reconsider and take time to rest or heal, whatever the circumstances might be.
It later became clear that Singh’s announcement referred specifically to his work as a playback vocalist. The singer said he will no longer take up new playback assignments, effectively stepping away from one of the most influential roles he has played in Indian cinema over the past decade.
Singh was last seen performing live in the UAE in December 2025, when he headlined the Icon Series concert at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. The performance now carries added significance following his unexpected statement.
Beyond playback singing, Singh is also a composer, music producer and instrumentalist. He first came into the public eye as a contestant on the reality show Fame Gurukul in 2005 before making his Hindi film debut in 2011 with “Phir Mohabbat.”
His career reached new heights in 2013 with “Tum Hi Ho” from Aashiqui 2, a song that earned him his first Filmfare Award and cemented his place in Bollywood’s musical landscape.
Over the years, his voice has defined countless chart-topping tracks, from “Channa Mereya” and “Agar Tum Saath Ho” to “Kesariya,” “Raabta” and “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.” His ability to move seamlessly across genres helped his music connect with listeners across generations.
His most recent release, “Ghar Kab Aaoge” from Border 2, once again underscored his emotional range and musical influence, even as fans grappled with the possibility of hearing his voice less often on the big screen.
While Singh has not clarified whether his decision is temporary or permanent, the announcement has left a noticeable silence, and widespread hope that this may not be his final chapter in music.
