Margot Robbie has shared details of an unconventional bachelorette-themed party her friends organised to celebrate her upcoming film Wuthering Heights.

Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday night, the Australian actress explained that the Los Angeles gathering was a playful tribute to her character Catherine Earnshaw and included a screening of the romantic drama. Robbie admitted she initially thought the idea was a joke. “My friends, who are amazing, threw a bachelorette for Cathy,” she said. “I kind of thought it was a joke at first.”

She recalled her friends chanting, “Cathy's bach, Cathy's bach!” before realising the event was serious. “I was like, ‘Wait, are we really going to have a fake bachelorette for an imaginary character?’ They were like, ‘Yes, absolutely.’” Robbie added that she could not reveal everything that happened, citing “girl code”.

She added that the screening itself was particularly lively. “It was 20 women (who) were like frothing at the mouth. They were like rabid dogs,” she joked. “They were a couple of drinks in already, and then the movie started, and they were screaming so much... there was constant commentary and screaming.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Robbie said it was fortunate her co-star Jacob Elordi did not attend the screening. Elordi plays Heathcliff in the film, which is loosely inspired by Emily Brontë’s 1847 novel. “I was like, ‘If he walked in right now, I think they would eat him,’” she laughed.

Directed by Emerald Fennell, Wuthering Heights is scheduled for release on February 13.
