South Korean star Cha Eun Woo has spoken publicly for the first time amid reports linking him to an alleged $13.7 million tax controversy.

The ASTRO member, whose real name is Lee Dong Min, has become one of the most recognizable faces in Korean entertainment through hit dramas such as True Beauty and Wonderful World, as well as his successful music career.

In recent weeks, however, his name has surfaced in connection with an investigation reportedly being conducted by South Korea’s National Tax Service.

According to multiple reports, authorities are examining possible tax irregularities involving millions of dollars, placing the actor-singer under intense public scrutiny. The situation has sparked widespread discussion online, given Cha’s clean-cut image and popularity both domestically and internationally.

In a statement released through his agency, Cha acknowledged the controversy and issued an apology to fans and the public. He expressed regret for causing concern and disappointment, saying the situation prompted serious self-reflection about his responsibilities as a public figure and as a citizen.

The 28-year-old concluded his message by pledging to move forward with a stronger sense of responsibility, thanking supporters for their patience during the ongoing scrutiny.

Neither Cha nor his agency has provided further details regarding the investigation, and South Korea’s National Tax Service has not publicly commented on the specifics of the case. The matter remains under review.
