PMD forecasts temperature rise in Karachi from Wednesday

Weather in other districts of the province is expected to remain cold to very cold

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Tuesday issued an early warning forecast, saying morning and evening temperatures in Karachi are likely to rise from Wednesday.

According to the PMD, the minimum temperature is expected to range between 11 and 13 degrees Celsius, while the maximum may hover between 23 and 25 degrees Celsius. Winds from different directions are likely to prevail over the next three days.

The department said sea breezes are expected to become briefly active from Wednesday evening. On Thursday, the city’s weather is likely to remain partly cloudy.

Meanwhile, the weather in other districts of the province is expected to remain cold to very cold, the PMD added.

On the other hand, Cloudy weather with intermittent rain, wind and thunderstorms, along with snowfall over hilly areas, is expected in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, northeast Punjab and northeast Balochistan during the next 12 hours.

Cold and dry weather is likely in other parts of the country.

Temperatures recorded in major cities on Tuesday morning were: Islamabad and Peshawar 10°C, Lahore 12°C, Karachi 14°C, Quetta –1°C, Murree and Gilgit 2°C, and Muzaffarabad 4°C.

Earlier, a severe cold wave continued to grip Karachi and the rest of Sindh, with temperatures dropping further across the province.

The department said the ongoing cold wave could persist until the end of the month, with temperatures likely to fall into single digits on several occasions.

The PMD also confirmed that the current cold spell has not broken any historical records. Karachi’s coldest temperature was recorded at zero degrees Celsius in 1934, followed by 1.3 degrees in 1986, 6.5 degrees in 2014, 5.6 degrees in 2020, and between 6.2 and 8 degrees Celsius in January 2025.
