A man was arrested during the Sundance Film Festival after allegedly assaulting U.S. Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost and making racist remarks at a private party hosted by Creative Artists Agency in Park City, Utah. The incident took place Saturday night at the High West Saloon and quickly drew condemnation from festival organizers and political leaders.
According to police and Frost’s own account, the suspect was not on the guest list and had reportedly gained entry to the private event before confronting the Florida Democrat. In a post on social media, Frost said, “Last night, I was assaulted by a man at Sundance Festival who told me that Trump was going to deport me before he punched me in the face.” He added that the man “was heard screaming racist remarks as he drunkenly ran off.”
Frost later confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody and said he was not seriously injured. “The individual was arrested and I am okay,” he said, thanking security staff and Park City police for responding quickly.
Park City police said officers responded to a report of an assault at the venue and determined the suspect had unlawfully entered the private party after being denied access earlier in the evening. The man was booked into the Summit County Jail on charges including aggravated burglary and simple assault.
The Sundance Film Festival released a statement condemning the incident, saying, “We strongly condemn last night’s assault and abhor any form of violence, harassment, and hate speech.” Organizers emphasized that such behavior is unacceptable and not reflective of the festival’s values, noting the party was not an official Sundance event.
House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries also denounced the attack, calling it “horrifying” and saying that hate-driven political violence has no place in the country. Frost, the first Generation Z member of the U.S. House of Representatives, later urged others not to be intimidated or silenced by the incident as the investigation continues.
