Natasha Lyonne has spoken publicly about a relapse following years of sobriety, offering a candid update on her long-running recovery from drug addiction.

The 46-year-old actress also referenced an upcoming creative project, adding, “Gonna do it for baby Bambo,” a nod to a film she has written and is set to direct about hockey player Sophie “Bambo” Braverman.
Lyonne has been open for many years about her history with addiction. After entering rehab in 2006, she later reflected on that period in a 2012 interview with Entertainment Weekly. “Spiraling into addiction is really, really scary,” she said at the time. “I was definitely as good as dead, you know? A lot of people don’t come back.”
Her update comes during a complex period professionally. Lyonne has recently faced criticism online over her involvement in AI-assisted filmmaking through Asteria, the studio she co-founded with producer Brynne Mooser. She has defended the work as artist-focused and traditionally produced.
“Of course the movie’s going to be shot like a real movie,” she told The Hollywood Reporter in May 2025. “There’s nothing I love more than movies… In no way would I ever want to do anything other than really create some guardrails or a new language.”
