Nintendo has officially announced a new Super Mario Galaxy Movie Direct, giving fans an exclusive new look at the upcoming animated sequel.

The presentation will air on Sunday, January 25, at 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET, marking a rare weekend Nintendo Direct dedicated entirely to one project.

According to Nintendo, the Direct will focus solely on the Super Mario Galaxy Movie, the follow-up to 2023’s blockbuster The Super Mario Bros. Movie. While the company has not revealed the runtime or specific content of the showcase, it has promised fans an “exclusive look” at the highly anticipated film.

The sequel brings back much of the original voice cast, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, and Keegan-Michael Key as Toad. New additions to the cast include Brie Larson as Rosalina and Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr., expanding the Mario cinematic universe.

A first trailer for the Super Mario Galaxy Movie debuted last year, followed by a short scene teasing Bowser’s imprisonment inside Princess Peach’s castle. That preview ended with the introduction of Bowser Jr., setting up the film’s central conflict as he attempts to rescue his father.

Directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic have returned after helming the original film, continuing Nintendo’s push into film and entertainment. The company is also developing a live-action The Legend of Zelda movie in partnership with Sony, signaling long-term plans beyond gaming.

While no new Mario game will launch alongside the movie, Nintendo recently confirmed a $20 Switch 2 upgrade for Super Mario Bros. Wonder, adding new modes, bosses, and a playable character when it launches on March 26.

Fans can tune in Sunday to see what Nintendo has in store next for Mario’s cinematic journey.
