Sega has announced a new scripted audio series that places Sonic the Hedgehog in an unfamiliar role, stepping away from the Green Hill Zone to lead a noir-inspired detective story.
Titled Sonic the Hedgehog Presents: The Chaotix Casefiles, the podcast series is set to premiere on January 27, 2026, and will be available across major audio platforms including Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
The project marks Sonic’s first dedicated move into long-form audio storytelling, expanding the franchise into the podcast space.
Unlike traditional conversational podcasts, The Chaotix Casefiles is a fully scripted narrative series. Episodes will be released weekly, with each instalment revealing new developments in an overarching mystery.
Sega describes the tone as drawing from classic crime thrillers, while maintaining a lighter approach through a deliberately “not-so-dark, not-so-stormy” setting.
The series centres on the Chaotix Detective Agency, with Sonic taking a leading role in the investigation. Familiar characters from the franchise are set to appear regularly, including Vector the Crocodile, Espio the Chameleon and Charmy the Bee.
Sega has also indicated that additional fan-favourite characters will feature through guest appearances as the story unfolds.
Several established voice actors from the Sonic games will reprise their roles for the audio-only format. Roger Craig Smith returns as Sonic, while Matthew Mercer once again voices Espio. Sega has confirmed that further returning performers will be recognisable to long-time fans of the series.
The podcast continues Sonic’s expansion across multiple forms of media, following appearances in films, television, and crossover events.
By adopting a noir crime format, the series presents the character in a new narrative context while retaining core elements of the wider Sonic universe.
Sonic the Hedgehog Presents: The Chaotix Casefiles launches on January 27, with new episodes released weekly.
