Kim Kardashian addresses criticism over North West’s fashion and piercings
Kim Kardashian has responded to criticism over her 12-year-old daughter North West’s fashion choices and self-expression.
The SKIMS founder, 45, spoke about her parenting style during a recent episode of Khloé in Wonder Land, emphasizing that her daughter is allowed freedom in expressing herself while still adhering to rules and prioritizing her education.
“I think the one misconception people have is that I’m trying to be her bestie and let her get away with a lot,” Kim said. “Northy actually has a lot of rules. That’s the one area I do let her express herself. I love her for that, and she would do it regardless.”
Kim addressed backlash over North wearing fake facial piercings, tattoos, and a dermal piercing, explaining that her daughter has always loved colorful hair and unique accessories. “I have pictures of her in pre-K where she had a fake septum ring and green braids,” Kim shared. “She really is who she is and always has been that girl, and I nurture her individuality.”
The public reaction to North West’s style has been mixed. Clips of the young star sporting blue hair, fake face tattoos, and a nose piercing sparked online concern, with some viewers saying she’s too young for such looks. The family’s joint TikTok account responded to the criticism, calling it “such a non-issue.”
Kim, who shares North along with Saint, 10, Chicago, 8, and Psalm, 6, with ex-husband Kanye West, reiterated that her daughter is confident and mature. She described North as aware of others’ opinions but comfortable pursuing her own style, showing the reality of parenting a high-profile celebrity child navigating public scrutiny.
