Alexander Skarsgård clarifies sexuality comments after ‘Pillion’ press speculation
Alexander Skarsgård says he was not coming out as bisexual, aiming to focus attention on his new film ‘Pillion’

Alexander Skarsgård has addressed recent speculation about his sexuality following comments made during the promotion of his new film Pillion.
The actor, known for roles in Big Little Lies and Succession, clarified in a Variety cover story that his remarks were not intended to indicate that he is bisexual.
The comments in question were made at the Zurich Film Festival last fall, where Skarsgård was discussing his role in Pillion, which opens February 6, 2026. In the film, he portrays the top in a gay BDSM relationship, and he was asked about what personal experiences he drew on for the role. Skarsgård responded that his focus was on authentically representing the story’s subculture, rather than sharing his own sexual history.
“Oh, that it resonated with my past? It was definitely not an intended statement,” Skarsgård told Variety. He explained that his goal was to center the narrative and characters rather than his personal life. “Maybe it was trying to shift the focus more to the story and these characters and the importance of telling the story like this,” he added.
Skarsgård also discussed his recent fashion choices, including gender-bending and bondage-inspired ensembles worn while promoting Pillion. He emphasized that his wardrobe is limited and not a result of high-end shopping but rather a creative approach he has embraced for publicity appearances.
The actor’s clarification comes amid widespread social media speculation and reflects the challenge actors face when discussing personal context in roles addressing LGBTQ+ themes. Fans and media outlets continue to follow Skarsgård’s career and upcoming projects closely.
