Residents of Districts West and Keamari in Karachi are set to face a temporary disruption in water supply on Tuesday, as the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC) begins installation of a new control gate at the Hub Canal reservoir.

A KW&SC spokesperson said the Hub Pumping Station will be shut down from 8am to 10pm during the installation. Hydrants at Crush Plant-I and II will also remain closed for maintenance. As a result, the city is expected to face a shortfall of approximately 50 million gallons of water for the day. Karachi typically receives around 650 million gallons daily, but officials assured that about 600 million gallons will continue to be supplied.

KW&SC officials explained that the existing gate at the canal had been causing frequent disruptions in water supply, making the installation of a new gate unavoidable. Once completed, the upgrade is expected to significantly improve the stability and reliability of Karachi’s water supply system.

Residents have been advised to use water sparingly during the shutdown. The KW&SC emphasised that this temporary inconvenience is part of broader efforts to modernise the city’s water infrastructure and ensure a more dependable supply in the long term.
