ISLAMABAD:

Authorities in the federal capital have enforced a zero-tolerance policy against illegal advertisements and unauthorised signboards. In parallel, Section 144 has been imposed across the district, and criminal cases are being registered against companies and individuals found in violation.

The Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) has launched a strict enforcement operation across commercial centres, removing illegal advertisements displayed in public spaces. Officials note that unregulated signage not only distorts the city's visual and structural planning but, in some cases, poses a physical safety risk due to heavy or improperly installed boards.

Under the supervision of the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA), MCI teams have begun a comprehensive clean-up campaign throughout the city. Banners, posters, stickers and streamers installed on public property — including government land, green belts, transformers, generators and other infrastructure — are being systematically removed.

In the first phase, an FIR has been registered at Kohsar Police Station over illegal advertisements displayed in the F-6 Markaz, under provisions including Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

MCI has made it clear that strict legal action will continue against any individual, business or institution that displays advertisements on public property without prior approval.

Penalties will include removal of material, registration of FIRs, fines and other applicable measures without exception.

MCI Chief Officer Dr Anum Fatima confirmed that legal action has commenced against violators, including those promoting organisations or activities without proper authorisation. She said that the registration of FIRs is ongoing to ensure accountability under prevailing laws.

She added that trade unions and business associations are being taken into confidence, and that these bodies have welcomed the Capital Development Authority's initiative. Residents of Islamabad say the campaign will not only enhance the city's aesthetic value but will also protect citizens from fraudulent and misleading promotional material.

The MCI has urged residents to cooperate and immediately notify authorities upon spotting any unauthorised advertisements or signage in public spaces.
