One terrorist was killed and two others were injured as police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) carried out an intelligence-based operation in Dera Ismail Khan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, sources said on Sunday.

According to sources, the operation was launched following reports of the presence of terrorists in Kalachi and its surrounding areas. Law enforcement personnel came under fire when the suspects opened fire upon spotting the police party, triggering a fierce exchange.

As a result of the shootout, one terrorist was killed while two others sustained injuries. A police constable also suffered minor injuries during the encounter, sources added.

Sources said the killed terrorist was involved in several attacks on police and targeted killings, including an incident at the Khatti Check Post. A large cache of weapons and ammunition, including hand grenades, along with a motorcycle, was recovered from the militant’s possession.

Police and CTD officials said the operation was carried out promptly on intelligence provided by security agencies and termed it a successful action. The area has been cordoned off, and a search operation is underway to trace the injured suspects.

Separately, terrorists carried out a coordinated attack on a private company’s construction camp working on the Circular Road project in the Doh Manzi area of Bannu.

Police said the attackers set fire to valuable assets and heavy machinery at the camp, completely destroying a crane, dumpers, excavators, a water tanker, generators, rollers, loaders, a solar plant, a tractor, diesel drums, curing compound drums and a welding plant.

Police described the attack as a deliberate attempt to sabotage the development project and spread fear in the area.
