KARACHI:

Karachi police have arrested two men accused of sexually abusing multiple children during an operation in the city's Tipu Sultan area on Saturday.

According to SP East Investigation Usman Sadozai, the District East Investigation Wing detained the suspects, identified as Imran and Waqas, after an inquiry into complaints filed between 2020 and 2025. Police said seven cases had been reported against the suspects during this period.

Sadozai said forensic reports from the Sindh laboratory showed DNA matching a single individual across several cases. Complaints were received from different areas of Karachi.

Additional Inspector General of Police Karachi, Azad Khan, constituted a special investigation team on January 6 under the supervision of DIG Muqaddas Haider to probe the incidents.

Police said Imran allegedly lured children and took them on a motorcycle to the Malir River area. After 10 days of continuous investigation and the recording of statements from multiple individuals, the police arrested Imran along with his accomplice on the 11th day.

Investigators said Imran, a resident of Manzoor Colony, works as a tyre puncture repairer. Police claimed he confessed to abusing dozens of children over six years.

According to police, children identified Imran in three cases, while in one case, a victim identified his accomplice, Waqas.

A judicial magistrate in Karachi South later in the day remanded the suspect arrested in the child sexual abuse case to police custody for three days.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah welcomed the arrests, calling them a major success, and reiterated that child abuse would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

He said the Sindh government considered crimes against children unacceptable and would ensure strict action against those involved. Noting that only seven victims had so far come forward, the chief minister directed police to continue efforts to trace and identify other affected children.

The Sindh CM instructed the additional inspector general of police to pursue the case strictly based on evidence and ensure it was taken to court. He also directed that daily progress reports on the investigation be submitted to him.

The chief minister said the provincial government had taken several measures to strengthen child protection and stressed that police must take all possible steps to ensure those responsible were punished. “There is no place for any predator in the city,” he said.
