Police have solved the blind murder case of a young man whose body was found two days ago in the Pirwadhai police station area and have arrested the main suspect.
According to police, the suspect abducted the young man with the help of his married niece and her husband on suspicion of the victim having relations with the niece.
The victim was later strangled to death, and his body was dumped in Nullah Leh.
Police said that on October 26, Fazal Ghaffar lodged a case stating that his nephew, Saleem Gul, who lived with him at Awan Chowk, had mysteriously gone missing six days earlier. Despite efforts, no trace of him could be found.
Police registered a case of abduction and initiated an investigation.
Two days ago, the abductee's body was recovered from Nullah Leh, bearing marks of strangulation. Following the recovery, police expanded the investigation and, using modern technology and human intelligence, traced leads indicating that the deceased worked at the vegetable market, where Abdul Basit and others from the same area were also employed.
It was revealed that the victim had developed relations with Basit's married niece.
Police included Abdul Basit in the investigation, during which the case unravelled. Investigators found that Abdul Basit, along with his niece and her husband, abducted the victim on suspicion of an illicit relationship, strangled him, and disposed of the body in Nullah Leh.
Abdul Basit has been formally arrested, while raids are underway to arrest the niece and her husband. Police officials said the suspects will be charged with solid evidence to ensure exemplary punishment.
